Christmas in Singapore
![]() Merry Christmas Merry-Go-Round Before I start off, there is something about Singapore that you should know. Singapore is a multi-racial multi-cultural society. This society is well known for their people being from diverse cultural backgrounds that coexist together and live harmoniously as a nation. We in fact have four national languages: English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. The entire nation celebrates together during the special holidays celebrated by the major cultures found within Singapore. This being said, you can understand that everyone enjoys and celebrates Christmas and New Year together. And the holiday spirit is always in the air. I honestly think that all the lovely decorations that are decked across the streets of the country during the festive season contribute greatly to this feeling and mood. Specifically the streets of the central town, such as Orchard Road, Suntec City and many more regions, are decorated exceptionally well for the whole holiday season. The roads are decked with lightings, decorations and lots of Christmas trees and artificial snow men. The loud music and joyful songs would always keep everyone on an upbeat, staying happy and excited as they celebrate the holiday season together as one people and one nation. There are always great sales and promotions at all the major retailer stores and they are always filled with people who wanted to go gift shopping and are getting ready for the holiday season. Retailers also decorate the malls and store areas so they can get people get into the holiday mood the entire time. In fact, the city is not only wonderfully decorated during the Christmas season. For instance, Little India is beautifully decked with Indian decorations during Deepavali or Diwali, China Town is filled with lanterns and dragons all through the Chinese New Year and festivities like the Moon cake Festival. During Ramadan, the Malay Village called Geylang Serai is lovely made up to have everyone in the mood for celebration and job.In conclusion, one of the things I love about home is that we celebrate the holiday seasons together and feel like family. We put aside our different cultures, customs and diversity, and join together to celebrate as a society. We in fact fully understand, appreciate, acknowledge and respect these differences. The culture of celebrating together is what makes us all Singaporeans. And what make me proud to be one.
